This is the conclusion drawn by experts organized by CNOOC after opening and inspecting the two propylene spherical tanks of the Huizhou Refining and Chemical Project. It marks the successful application of thick plates for negative 50-degree spherical tanks independently developed by Baosteel. This is a negative 50-degree propylene spherical tank made of domestic steel plates in our country.

The -50 ° C propylene spherical tank is one of the key equipment for processing finished products in the petrochemical industry. Under the requirements of high safety performance, the steel plates used in spherical tanks need to have high strength, low-temperature impact toughness, and good plasticity and weldability, so that the steel plates do not deform or crack after low-temperature impact. According to experts, high strength and low-temperature impact toughness are a pair of contradictions. The manufacturing difficulty of balancing the two is very high. In the past, only foreign enterprises could produce steel plates of this grade. All the similar spherical tanks put into use in China were made of imported steel plates.
